If you’re lucky enough to have a washer and dryer in your apartment (like the folks at The Commons on Kinnear in Columbus, Ohio and The Lodge on the Trail in West Lafayette, Indiana), you should also make a point to tidy them up.

Wipe down the washer, and use an old toothbrush to clean the detergent and bleach dispensers. Then, vacuum or clean out your dryer’s lint trap.

Also, it should be noted that leaving behind a spotless apartment at move-out certainly increases your chances of getting your deposit back.
