The Smart Way To Sort Laundry

It’s a tale as old as time: A white shirt turned pink because it was laundered with something red.

It’s unfortunate, but also completely preventable. But you knew that, right?

Well did you know that clothes made of rough and heavy fabrics, like jeans and hoodies, should be washed together because they can make other clothes look old and worn?

For five more laundry sorting tips, including wash cycles and temperatures, keep reading.

  • Wash nearly-white, very light and pastel colored clothing together on normal, hot (warm if fading is an issue)
  • Wash dress shirts and dress pants on permanent press, cold
  • Wash lingerie and other delicates (lace, silk, wool) on gentle, cold
  • Wash towels and rags on normal, hot
  • Wash bedsheets and pillowcases on normal, warm

And remember… Whether you use a laundry facility or you have a full-size washer and dryer in your apartment (like the residents at The Connection in Huntsville, Texas and The Pavilion on 62nd in Gainesville, Florida), thoughtful sorting is always a good idea. It ensures your clothes actually get clean and last longer.
