Recycling Tips For College Students

During the hustle and bustle of college life, thinking about making your environment a better place is probably not the first thing on your mind. What you might not realize is that going green on and off campus is much easier than you think.

Here are four easy recycling tips for college students that are easy to implement, and will also save you a bit of money (and what student doesn’t want to do that)!

Use Efficient Light Bulbs
Compact fluorescent lamps, or CFLs, are energy efficient light bulbs that help save money, use less energy, and reduce the number of light bulb changes.

Sort Your Trash
Almost all dorm rooms provide students with recycling bins. Use them! With a large amount of paper, aluminum, and glass products being used in the student lifestyle, it’s important (and pretty simple) to recycle these items properly.

Purchase Used Textbooks
A lot of students choose to buy used textbooks because they cost less money. What many don’t see is that when you’re buying used, you’re also helping out the environment!

Be Smart About Transportation
The less vehicles we drive, the smaller our carbon footprints will be. The good part about college is that campuses are typically very walkable, with plenty of transportation options other than cars to get you where you need to be.

And if you’re lucky enough to have a campus shuttle from your apartment community to campus, like at The Village at Bluegrass in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, then making this transition to a greener lifestyle even easier!
