The Green Line corridor
Prospect Park is the residential neighborhood east of the main campus along the METRO Green Line, marked by its historic Witch’s Hat water tower on the hill. It is quieter and more residential than the campus-edge districts, with a mix of older houses, smaller apartment buildings, and newer development clustered near the Prospect Park and Westgate stations.
The trade is a few minutes of transit for more space and a calmer setting, while staying on the line that reaches both banks of campus.
Built environment: a quieter residential neighborhood of older houses and smaller buildings, with newer development near the Prospect Park and Westgate Green Line stations.
Both banks on one line
From the Prospect Park station, the METRO Green Line reaches Stadium Village and East Bank to the west and West Bank just beyond, so both banks are a short, single-line ride. That makes Prospect Park a flexible base for students whose classes move between East and West Bank, including much of the College of Liberal Arts.
Toward St. Paul, the Westgate station and Route 121 on the U of M Transitway connect to the St. Paul campus, so even cross-campus schedules stay car-free.
Transfer note: Prospect Park’s position on the Green Line also makes it a practical base for MnCAP transfer students who want one address that reaches a city community college now and the U of M after they transfer.
