After living in a cramped dorm room for at least a year, most college students are more than ready to move into a place of their own.
An apartment means more space and fewer rules— a win-win. But not every apartment is ideal for college students. With a hectic day-to-day life and fairly limited resources, it may take a little while to find a place that’s just right for you.
Help yourself by keeping an eye out for these four things:
On-Site Laundry
Hauling your clothes (and bedding and towels) to a laundromat is no fun. If you can find an apartment with laundry facilities in your building or, better yet, a washer and dryer in your unit, you’ll save yourself time and money.
A Study Area
Sometimes you need to escape the distractions in your apartment to catch up on schoolwork. A coffee shop isn’t the worst place to go, but it’s nice to have someplace nearby…that doesn’t make you feel obligated to buy a latte.
All-Inclusive Rent
Some apartment communities will include the cost of utilities (which ones vary) in your rent. Believe it or not, this is a good thing; it makes budgeting a heck of a lot easier.
Individual Leases
Leases by the bedroom, like the individual leases offered at 100 Midtown in Atlanta, are especially good for students who plan to live with roommates. Why? They guarantee that you’re never on the hook for their portion of the rent. These kind of leases aren’t available at all apartment communities, so be sure to ask up front.
