Garden space is relatively rare at apartment communities. But don’t despair, renters. With the help of a few Mason jars, you too can plant your very own herb garden.
Here are four simple steps for growing all the herbs you could ever want, from sage to cilantro. Follow these instructions and they’ll be sprouting up in no time.
You Will Need:
- Mason jars
- Potting soil
- Herb seeds
Directions:
- Fill your jars ¾ full with potting soil
- Add the seeds to your jars and follow the planting instructions on the package
- Lightly cover the seeds with additional potting soil
- Add identification tags to each jar
If you have a balcony, like residents at The Lodge on the Trail in West Lafayette, Indiana, you can set your herbs on it. Just be sure to find out which herbs grow best in direct sunlight and which ones need a little shade.
And if you’d like to use your Mason jar herb garden as decor, consider sprucing up your jars with chalk paint.
